Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

Feb 21,25

The temporary US shutdown of TikTok on January 19th unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). The game, developed by Second Dinner Studios, went offline for a day before being partially restored. However, in-app purchases remain unavailable.

This disruption prompted Second Dinner to explore a publisher change and internalizing some services, as announced on X (formerly Twitter). The move is a direct response to the political uncertainty surrounding TikTok's future in the US. TikTok was granted only a 90-day extension to sell a 50% stake to a local owner, leaving Marvel Snap vulnerable to further blockades if the deal fails.

Second Dinner assures players that Marvel Snap is "here to stay" and is actively working to restore full functionality, including in-app purchases. While PC users via Steam remained unaffected, many players experienced authorization problems and expressed frustration over the lack of prior warning, particularly regarding in-game spending. Further updates are promised.
