"Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Date Leaked"
Summary
- Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly be officially announced on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
- The original Switch was also revealed on a Thursday back in 2016.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be officially unveiled on January 16, 2025, according to a well-known and reliable leaker. An early 2025 announcement increases the chances of the console hitting store shelves in the first half of the year.
The Switch 2 has been one of Nintendo's worst-kept secrets. Reports suggest that mass production of the console began around late September or early October 2024, supported by numerous hardware leaks that have surfaced online. Nintendo has promised to announce its next console by March 31, 2025, the end of its fiscal year.
NateTheHate, a well-known leaker, confirmed during his January 13 podcast that the Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16, 2025, based on information from unnamed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's tradition of making significant announcements on Thursdays; the original Switch teaser was released on October 20, 2016, another Thursday. Following NateTheHate's podcast, The Verge's Tom Warren corroborated that the Switch 2 reveal is planned for this week.
Nintendo Switch 2 Has Already Leaked on All Fronts
It's uncertain whether Nintendo will follow the same strategy as with the original Switch, possibly releasing a teaser on social media before the full reveal event. They might share a glimpse of the console and confirm the reveal date a day in advance. However, the upcoming reveal may not surprise avid fans, given the extensive leaks about the console over the past few months. The sheer amount of unofficial information has led Nintendo to comment on a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgment of product leaks.
To recap, the Switch 2 is rumored to be slightly larger than the Switch OLED Model, measuring 270 x 116 x 14mm, and will feature an 8-inch LCD screen. The Joy-Cons are expected to attach magnetically, with the right controller featuring an additional "C" button below the home key. The purpose of this button is unclear but may be related to a rumored mouse-like pointer mode for one of the Joy-Cons.
Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Game Lineup Is Still a Mystery
The launch game lineup for the Switch 2 remains a mystery. While RPGs like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed for the console, they are not expected to be available at launch if the Switch 2 is released in the first half of 2025. Nintendo is likely to bolster the console's initial sales with at least one or two first-party heavy-hitters available on day one.
