Oblivion's Remastered Mods Now Available
Bethesda has officially announced that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will not include native mod support, yet that hasn't deterred passionate fans from releasing several unofficial mods shortly after launch.
Just hours after Bethesda and Virtuos' surprise release of the Oblivion reimagining for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, a number of community-made mods surfaced on the popular site Nexus Mods. Though these are mostly minor customization tweaks, they highlight the dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.
As of this writing, 22 mods are already available on the platform. The earliest mod simply lets PC users replace the default Oblivion Remastered desktop shortcut with one of two images featuring the infamous Adoring Fan. Several mods bypass the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logos, while others—such as a mod that adjusts the Wizard's Fury spell and one that removes the compass—already allow players to tailor gameplay mechanics.
This early influx of mods comes as Bethesda, which has historically championed mod support in its games, confirmed that Oblivion Remastered won’t offer official mod tools this time. The company noted on its website’s FAQ that players will need to seek out unofficial alternatives.
Meanwhile, Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming shared their Iron Longsword damage modification partly to show that Oblivion Remastered is still open to modding.
“This just proves that modding is possible,” they stated in the mod description. “Bethesda says there's no mod support—I disagree. It's essentially an Unreal layer over Oblivion. The data folder is deeper in the directory, but it works the same way.”
