Conquer the Legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal moment in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, presents a significant challenge. This guide provides a step-by-step strategy to ensure victory. This final stage of Chapter 2 requires defeating Dong Zhuo.

Initial Assault:

Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Defeat them systematically as you conquer the remaining bases. Eliminating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with a twin pike weapon.

Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the enemy defenses.

Lu Bu's Intervention:

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating surrounding officers to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence rapidly depletes.

Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him. Liu Bei's forces will defend, buying you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint; if Liu Bei's forces are routed, Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads poised to attack, and fully healed, charge towards Dong Zhuo.

Dong Zhuo will use Grand Tactics (fireball attacks). Destroy the front two catapults to counter his first Grand Tactic. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to reach the catapults.

His second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer. Engage the officer via the right-hand stairs, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan (a defector). A duel with Diaochan, while difficult, simplifies the encounter.

Once the Grand Tactic is countered, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further aiding your advance. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
