PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming Beta with Gameplay Capture
Sony is rolling out an exciting new update for PlayStation Portal users participating in its Cloud Streaming Beta, enhancing both user experience and general functionality within the remote play system's cloud capabilities. This update, set to be released later today, introduces several new features that promise to improve the overall gaming experience.
One of the key additions is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or based on which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus. This sorting feature will make it easier for users to navigate through the available games and find what they want to play more efficiently.
Another significant update is the introduction of gameplay capturing during a Cloud Streaming session. Users can access the familiar create menu options to snap screenshots or record video clips. According to the PlayStation blog post about the update, video clips can be recorded in up to 1920x1080 resolution and can last up to three minutes, offering ample opportunity for players to capture and share their favorite moments.
Gameplay will now pause when you access the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode via the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, the pause feature in rest mode is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal stays in rest mode longer, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. It's worth noting that pause functionality won't be supported during online multiplayer sessions.Additional updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and new user feedback tools. Sony has expressed its commitment to further enhancing the Cloud Streaming Beta based on user feedback, indicating that more improvements are on the horizon.
The Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusively available to PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to play select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog through cloud streaming on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and with these ongoing enhancements, it's clear that Sony is dedicated to refining this feature.
As cloud streaming continues to solidify its place in the modern gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's service evolves in conjunction with the PlayStation Portal. One of the immediate benefits for users is the ability to capture numerous screenshots while streaming to their Portal, enhancing their overall gaming experience.
