Pokemon TCG Pocket: Poisoned, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Poison’ Ability)
This guide explores the effects of the Poisoned condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket. We'll cover what Poisoned is, which cards inflict it, how to cure it, and build a competitive Poison deck.
Quick Links
Pokémon TCG Pocket features Special Conditions like Poisoned, mirroring the physical card game. A Poisoned Active Pokémon loses 10 HP at the end of each turn until cured or knocked out. This guide explains its mechanics and strategic uses.
What is Poisoned?
Poisoned is a Special Condition inflicting 10 HP loss per turn during the round's Checkup phase. Unlike some effects, it doesn't automatically disappear and requires a cure. While it stacks with other Special Conditions, multiple Poison effects don't increase the HP loss; it remains 10 HP per turn. Certain Pokémon benefit from a poisoned opponent, such as Muk, dealing increased damage.
Which Cards Inflict Poison?
In the Genetic Apex expansion, these Pokémon inflict the Poisoned condition: Weezing, Grimer, Nidoking, Tentacruel, and Venomoth. Grimer is particularly effective as a Basic Pokémon poisoning with a single Energy. Weezing's Gas Leak ability (usable only while active) also inflicts Poison without Energy cost.
How to Cure Poisoned?
Three methods cure Poisoned:
- Evolution: Evolving a Poisoned Pokémon removes the condition.
- Retreat: Benching the Pokémon prevents further HP loss.
- Item Cards: Cards like Potion heal HP but don't remove Poisoned, only extending survivability.
Building a Poison Deck
A potent Poison deck utilizes the Grimer, Arbok, and Muk synergy. Grimer quickly poisons, Arbok traps the opponent's Active Pokémon, and Muk inflicts significant damage to poisoned targets. Here's a sample decklist:
Poison Deck Composition
Card | Quantity | Effect |
---|---|---|
Grimer | x2 | Inflicts Poisoned |
Ekans | x2 | Evolves into Arbok |
Arbok | x2 | Locks opponent's Active Pokémon |
Muk | x2 | Deals 120 DMG to Poisoned Pokémon |
Koffing | x2 | Evolves into Weezing |
Weezing | x2 | Inflicts Poisoned via Ability (Gas Leak) |
Koga | x2 | Returns Active Weezing or Muk to hand |
Poké Ball | x2 | Draws a Basic Pokémon |
Professor's Research | x2 | Draws two cards |
Sabrina | x1 | Forces opponent's Active Pokémon to Retreat |
X Speed | x1 | Reduces Retreat cost |
Alternative strategies include using Jigglypuff (PA) and Wigglytuff ex, or a slower, high-damage Nidoking evolution line (Nidoran, Nidorino, Nidoking). Experiment to find your preferred Poison deck build.
