Rambo fans, get ready for an exciting journey back in time! A new prequel project titled "John Rambo" is in the works, directed by Jalmari Helander, who brought us the thrilling films "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, is set to launch this film at the Cannes market. This market, which coincides with the Cannes Film Festival, is a prime venue for showcasing upcoming projects to potential investors and distribution partners. Millennium Media previously contributed to the success of 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood."

Details about "John Rambo" are scarce, but we know it will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." No casting has been finalized yet, and while Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved. The script, penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam," promises to bring a fresh perspective to the Rambo saga. Filming is slated to begin in Thailand in October.

Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which reimagined the John Wick formula with an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, showcases his ability to handle high-octane action. This experience suggests he is well-equipped to bring the intensity and drama of the Vietnam War to life in "John Rambo."
