This new installment, a completely original entry, is being developed by Sega's own Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the acclaimed Yakuza series and the Virtua Fighter 5 remaster.

The recently released in-engine footage, first shown at NVIDIA's 2025 CES keynote, isn't actual gameplay but offers a compelling glimpse into the game's visual direction. The video showcases a stylized combat sequence featuring Akira, the franchise's iconic character, in new outfits, departing from his classic look. The visuals appear to blend elements of Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6, moving away from the series' earlier polygonal style towards a more realistic aesthetic. The last significant Virtua Fighter release was Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, a 2021 remaster (coming to Steam in January 2025).
