Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn
Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. This exciting film adaptation was announced at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a celebrated shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. Its remarkable success saw it become PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, achieving 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity soared further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation.
