Townsfolk is a retro roguelike strategy where you conquer new lands for the Crown
The folks at Short Circuit Studios have consistently delivered captivating games, from the charming toybox simulators like Teeny Tiny Trains, Teeny Tiny Town, and Tiny Connections. Now, they're venturing into darker territory with their upcoming release, Townsfolk, a roguelike strategy city-builder set to launch on April 3rd.
In Townsfolk, you take on the role of a leader tasked by the Crown to colonize new lands. Your primary goal is to ensure the survival and prosperity of your people while expanding your colony's resources. This involves managing essential elements like Food, Gold, Faith, and Production to keep everything running smoothly.
However, the journey is far from easy. The untamed and uncharted land presents numerous challenges, including wild animals, unpredictable disasters, and tough moral dilemmas. And don't forget the crucial task of paying your tithes to the Crown, or face dire consequences.
Hexcrawl Townsfolk marks a significant shift for Short Circuit Studios. While their previous works were characterized by a quaint and twee aesthetic, Townsfolk embraces a darker visual style and a more challenging difficulty curve. As a roguelike, players will need to learn from failure and adapt to succeed.
The game offers various modes to keep players engaged, including the Roguelite Campaign, Skirmish Mode for testing your skills against diverse challenges, and Puzzle Challenges that offer mind-bending obstacles.
