World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The World of Warcraft (WoW) Feast of Winter Veil, WoW's take on Christmas, returns annually with fresh rewards and festive items. A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.

This in-game event mirrors real-world Christmas traditions, offering players special rewards and activities, including new collectables acquired through various means. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths about Greatfather Winter (a Titan-forged giant), Tauren traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother, and the modern-day commercialization of Winter Veil by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.

A History Steeped in Lore:

The video wouldn't be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after Chris Metzen (former Warcraft creative director). This unfortunate reindeer boasts a history of kidnappings: pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a humorous thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic voice (also voiced by Metzen).

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore deep dives into Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge (Wrath of the Lich King Classic), World Trees and Blackrock Depths (modern WoW), and guides for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. This collaboration highlights Blizzard's ongoing engagement with content creators.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the virtual tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift, reminiscent of last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
