Valve Pauses Deadlock Updates for Stability
Deadlock's 2025 Update Schedule: Fewer, Bigger Patches
Valve has announced a shift in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, moving towards larger, less frequent updates. This decision follows a year of consistent bi-weekly patches, a schedule now deemed unsustainable for optimal development and player experience.
While this news might disappoint some players anticipating constant content drops, Valve assures that future updates will be more substantial, resembling major events rather than minor tweaks. The change aims to allow for more thorough internal iteration and better external impact before subsequent releases. This approach was foreshadowed by the game's unique winter update, which deviated from the usual balance patch pattern.
Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched earlier in 2024 after early gameplay surfaced online. It quickly established itself in the competitive hero-shooter market, even alongside the popular Marvel Rivals, thanks to its distinctive steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 with the addition of Hero Labs characters. Its innovative anti-cheat measures further contribute to its appeal.
According to a statement by Valve developer Yoshi on the official Deadlock Discord, the new update schedule will see a departure from the fixed two-week cycle. Major patches will be less frequent but significantly larger in scope. Hotfixes will continue to be deployed as needed. The company anticipates this approach will enhance the overall game experience.
The winter update served as a prelude to this new direction, hinting at the possibility of future limited-time events and special game modes. While a concrete release date remains unannounced, 2025 promises further developments and potentially more substantial content drops for Deadlock.
