Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, focuses on interactive memories and promises a deeply personal gaming experience.

A Personalized AI Life Sim

The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading organization in type 1 diabetes research), provided a glimpse into Proxi's core mechanics. Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their memories using in-game assets.

Each memory, termed a "mem," contributes to the game's AI learning process, populating the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does its population of Proxies—digital representations of the player's friends and family—linked to specific memories. The timeline is flexible, allowing players to rearrange and connect memories to different Proxies, creating a dynamic representation of their life experiences. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox!

Wright emphasized the game's aim: to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." This focus on personal experience drives the game's design, leveraging the inherent human interest in oneself. Wright humorously noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," suggesting that the more personalized the game, the more engaging it becomes.

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements expected soon.
