Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The trend of remaking classic games has seen a surge in popularity, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 undergoing modern revivals. Adding to this list could be the original Devil May Cry, as Kamiya has voiced his enthusiasm for revisiting the game.In his May 8th video, Kamiya responded to fan inquiries about potential remakes and sequels. When asked about his approach to remaking Devil May Cry, he stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that." This indicates a strong personal interest in reimagining the game for today's audiences.
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the game's direction shifted significantly, leading Capcom to birth the Devil May Cry franchise instead. Reflecting on the game's origins, Kamiya revealed that the project was fueled by personal experiences, including a breakup that left him deeply affected. This emotional turmoil became a driving force behind the creation of Devil May Cry.
Kamiya admits that he does not revisit his games post-release, including Devil May Cry. Yet, occasional glimpses of gameplay remind him of the game's age and its original design elements from 24 years ago. If given the opportunity to remake it, he envisions constructing the game anew, harnessing today's technological advancements and modern game design philosophies.
While Kamiya isn't actively pondering the project, he remains open to the idea. He confidently asserts, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Beyond Devil May Cry, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking another of his creations, Viewtiful Joe. These announcements have sparked excitement among fans, who eagerly anticipate the potential return of these beloved titles in updated forms.
