NetEase Games is making significant adjustments to the Marvel Rivals post-launch roadmap, aiming to shorten its seasons and introduce at least one new hero every month. This strategic shift is designed to keep the game's live service momentum strong and engage its player base more effectively.

The details of these changes were hinted at during the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, a 15-minute presentation that revealed Season 2's launch on April 11, featuring the new Vanguard, Emma Frost. Mid-season, players can look forward to the arrival of Ultron, whose class details will be disclosed closer to his release. Both characters are set to bring fresh abilities into the game, promising to keep fans engaged. However, the most significant shifts in how heroes influence gameplay will start with Season 3.

In Marvel Rivals Season 3, which does not yet have a set release date, NetEase plans to reduce the length of seasons from three months to two. This adjustment will allow for faster major content updates while maintaining the commitment to release at least one new hero per half-season. This means players will experience a shorter wait time between new hero releases, starting from the hero following Ultron.

Guangyun Chen, the creative director of Marvel Rivals, shared in the Dev Vision video, "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver a fun and engaging experience for you all. During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December. To a certain extent, we agree."

Chen emphasized NetEase's goal to keep the audience's excitement at the level seen during the game's opening months, stating, "With our goal of keeping the audience’s excitement alive just like our opening months, the real adventure with Marvel Rivals is just beginning." He also highlighted the team's intention to explore new modes and introduce a diverse roster of characters to fulfill players' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes. After extensive internal discussions and evaluations, NetEase is ready to adjust its systems to accommodate the increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3 launches.

Just hours ago, NetEase pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 2, announcing a shift from the vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This change will bring new outfits, maps, and characters, with further details to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Since its launch on December 6, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players in just three days. The game, available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, saw an impressive 480,990 concurrent players on Steam at launch. Season 1 in January further boosted the game's popularity, reaching 644,269 concurrent players and ranking as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform.

However, the game has experienced a decline in concurrent players since then, which may have prompted the roadmap changes. Despite this, Marvel Rivals remains highly popular and ranks among Steam's most-played games. The launch of Season 2 and the subsequent Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate the player base.
