"Rainbow Six Siege X Beta to Include New 6v6 Mode, Dual Front"
Rainbow Six Siege X has launched its Closed Beta, spotlighting the new 6v6 game mode, Dual Front. Dive in to discover all about the innovative Dual Front mode and what to expect from the closed beta test.
Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Unveils Exciting Update Details
Closed Beta Kicks Off on March 13, 2025
Ubisoft has officially announced that Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will host its Closed Beta test from March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, right after the R6 Siege X Showcase, until March 19th at the same times.
Gamers can secure access to the R6 Siege X Closed Beta by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through various Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. This beta will showcase the new Dual Front game mode and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
However, there have been reported issues with players not receiving their access codes via email. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it.
It's worth noting that R6 Siege X is not a new game, but a significant update that will elevate Siege with comprehensive graphical and technical enhancements.
Introducing the 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front
Ubisoft has introduced Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode that promises "foundational upgrades to the core game," including visual enhancements, audio overhaul, and improved rappel mechanics, along with revamped player protection systems. This mode will offer free access, allowing players to immerse themselves in Rainbow Six Siege's unique tactical action without any cost.
Dual Front will unfold on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will simultaneously attack enemy sectors while defending their own. This simultaneous action introduces fresh possibilities for gadget combinations and strategic play.
The classic Siege mode, now rebranded as "Core Siege," will continue to be a staple, featuring updated versions of five iconic maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe. These maps will boast double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. While only five maps are updated initially, Ubisoft plans to modernize three more maps each season.
Free Access Begins in Season 2 of Year 10
Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting in Season 2 of Year 10, following the trend set by its competitors. Initially launched in 2015, Siege was part of a time when paid multiplayer games dominated, and live-service models were less common.
Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis, speaking at the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13, emphasized the desire to bring new players into the fold. He stated, "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special." Karpazis also highlighted the social aspect, saying, "That reduces the barrier [to entry], because honestly Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."
The free access will include Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front modes. However, Ranked mode and Siege Cup will remain behind a paywall to maintain the game's competitive integrity. Former Game Director Leroy Athanassoff shared in a 2020 PC Gamer interview that this strategy was designed to deter smurfs and cheaters. Karpazis added, "It is, in our opinion, the best of both worlds where you can bring in new players but also have this place where veterans feel super competitive and committed to the game."
No Plans for Siege 2
Karpazis confirmed that a sequel, Siege 2, was never considered, even as the game celebrated its 10th anniversary. Unlike competitors such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege has chosen to enhance its existing platform rather than launch a new game.
He explained, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." He continued, "We just had to do what was right for Siege and what was right for players as well. When we go back in time three years ago, that was the main focus for us."
The development of Siege X, which has been ongoing for three years alongside regular seasonal updates, aims to sustain and enrich the Siege experience for the next decade. Karpazis emphasized, "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far."
He also acknowledged the crucial role of the community, stating, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."
Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Keep up with the latest developments by checking out our Rainbow Six Siege article below!
