Slay the Spire 2 Delayed to March 2026, Dev Denies Silksong Link
Slay the Spire 2's release has been pushed back to March 2026.
The developers at Megacrit stated that the decision to move the launch window from late 2025 came "after extensive internal deliberation." While they acknowledge "this isn't the update fans were hoping for," the team requires additional development time.
"There isn't one major cause. The team faced some personal life events (everyone is fine!), we kept pursuing one too many 'wouldn't it be cool if…' ideas, and frankly, the game needs more polish to reach our quality bar," the team explained.
"We understand this is disappointing news (for us as well—we're eager to get the game into your hands!). Our initial target was late 2025, but we underestimated the scope. We need a bit more time to get things right."
The postponement is also partly due to the addition of substantial new features and content, including new playable characters, more cards, potions, relics, and events, enhanced visual polish and animations/VFX, quality-of-life improvements, entirely new game mechanics, and "plenty more we can't reveal just yet."
"What consumes game development time? Game development itself!" the announcement continued. "Compared to Slay the Spire 1's initial Early Access launch—and even its final 2.0 state—this sequel contains significantly more content we're excited to share. We're also committed to meeting the quality expectations both we and the community have for Early Access titles."
For those curious… no, the delay is unrelated to Hollow Knight: Silksong. Megacrit clarified that the team "finalized our new release window before Silksong's date was announced."
"The timing is purely coincidental. On a positive note, everyone can enjoy playing Silksong while they wait!" Megacrit added.
Slay the Spire 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed deck-building roguelite, introducing the Necrobinder, a wandering lich seeking to bind a forgotten corpse. We hailed the original Slay the Spire as 'Amazing', giving it a stellar 9/10 review: "Slay the Spire masterfully blends the best elements of deck-builders, roguelikes, and dungeon crawlers into a uniquely satisfying experience."
