Blue Protocol Global Launch Halted, Japan Servers Shut Down

Mar 25,25

Bandai Namco has recently made the tough decision to shut down the servers of Blue Protocol in Japan, effective January 18, 2025. This announcement not only marks the end of the game's service in its home country but also dashes hopes for a global release, which was set to be facilitated by Amazon Games. The cancellation of the worldwide rollout stems from Bandai's assessment that they could no longer meet the expectations of their fanbase.

In an official statement, Bandai Namco conveyed their regret: "We have decided that it is beyond our capabilities to continue providing a service that satisfies everyone." They also expressed disappointment in halting the development intended for the global market in collaboration with Amazon Games.

As Blue Protocol nears its end, Bandai Namco has committed to supporting the game with continuous updates and new content until its final day. However, players will no longer be able to purchase or request refunds for the in-game currency, known as Rose Orbs. To compensate, Bandai will distribute 5,000 Rose Orbs to players on the first day of each month starting from September 2024 until January 2025, alongside a daily allocation of 250 Rose Orbs. Furthermore, the season pass will be available for free starting with the recently released Season 9, and the final update, Chapter 7, is slated for release on December 18, 2024.

Launched in Japan in June 2023, Blue Protocol initially captured significant attention, boasting over 200,000 concurrent players right at its debut. Despite this promising start, the game's launch was marred by server issues that necessitated emergency maintenance on release day. Over time, player numbers dwindled, and dissatisfaction grew, reflecting a struggle to retain its audience.

The game's performance fell short of Bandai Namco's financial expectations, a fact highlighted in their financial report for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024. This underperformance played a crucial role in the decision to terminate the service, marking a disappointing end to what began as an exciting venture for both the company and its players.
