The Voodoo Doll offers a relatively favorable risk-reward ratio among Cursed Possessions. While game updates have altered some of its benefits, it remains a valuable asset. Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence through actions triggered by inserting pins. This proves particularly useful when dealing with elusive or unresponsive ghosts, prompting them to manifest evidence like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints.

Ten pins can be inserted, each depleting 5% of the user's sanity. Inserting all pins reduces sanity by 50%, significantly increasing the risk of ghost hunts. However, the most significant risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; hitting the heart pin instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt, dropping sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged hunt (20 seconds longer than usual).

Despite the inherent risks, the potential for gathering crucial evidence makes the Voodoo Doll worthwhile, especially with adequate preparation.

Cursed Possessions ("Cursed Objects") are unique items randomly appearing on any map, although their spawn rate depends on difficulty and game mode (Challenge Mode). Unlike standard equipment, which minimizes risk while providing evidence, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost but at a greater risk to the player.

The risk associated with each Cursed Object varies. The decision to use them rests with the players; there's no penalty for avoiding them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
