Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda has detailed the upcoming May 28 Ver. 1.011 update, which introduces a wealth of new features and game enhancements, including a collaboration with Street Fighter 6.

In his latest Director’s Letter, Tokuda explained the team’s goal to deliver more engaging content and various refinements to elevate the Monster Hunter Wilds experience. Among the additions is the formidable new challenger, Street Fighter’s Akuma. Players can obtain a complete Akuma armor set alongside layered armor. When either set is equipped, three special items—Assisted Combo Akuma, Drive Impact, and Gou Hadoken—will be added to the item bar. More details about these abilities are available on the official Monster Hunter website.

Version 1.011 also introduces eight-star “challenging” monsters: Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad. These become huntable at Hunter Rank 41 and above, offering alternatives to hunting eight-star tempered monsters beyond Arkveld—though these monsters will still appear at seven-star difficulty. The eight-star variants are notably tougher, featuring increased health, higher wound resistance, and adjustments to multiplayer scaling. Tokuda cautions that Tempered Gore Magala presents a particularly grueling test, even for seasoned hunters. As your HR climbs, expect more frequent high-difficulty quests and missions involving multiple monsters.

Both Ver. 1.011 and the forthcoming Title Update 2 will introduce a series of player-focused balance adjustments. Tweaks have been applied to the Hammer, Hunting Horn, Gunlance, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun, while specific aspects of the Gunlance Artian weapons have been enhanced.

Tokuda noted that although some weapon parameters have been toned down, others have been strengthened. Overall, these changes are designed to broaden the capabilities of every weapon type, and players are encouraged to experiment after the update. He also confirmed that the Hammer and Dual Blades are receiving additional refinements.

Several quality-of-life improvements are also on the way. Hunters can now rest at the Grand Hub and Suja, Peaks of Accord, which fully repairs any destroyed Pop-up Camps. When your item pouch is full, picked-up items will automatically transfer to your item box without a confirmation prompt. Meal effect timers are now more visible, displaying a countdown when 10 minutes remain. All notifications have been adjusted to reduce on-screen clutter—only high-priority targets will appear in the environment overview, and alerts will no longer interfere with opening the map.

“As mentioned in the previous director's letter, you will now be able to view individual endemic life you have captured,” Tokuda added. “In the Windward Plains, select Check Endemic Life in Ecological Research to see your collected creatures along with their names, plus the size and weight of any fish you’ve caught. You can also mark creatures as favorites to prevent them from being removed if you exceed storage limits. Individual creatures may feature unique patterns or traits, so if you discover one you especially like, use this feature to keep it safe!”

Stability improvements, particularly on Steam, are also part of the update. With the arrival of eight-star monsters, rewards for eight-star investigations and field surveys have been increased. Guild Point rewards for fishing have been rebalanced, though specific details have not yet been shared.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the newest mainline entry in Capcom’s enduring series, showcasing dynamic, evolving environments and a narrative exploring the relationship between monsters and humans in a dual-natured world—one of harsh, resource-scarce lands where monsters fiercely compete, and another of vibrant, teeming life. In our review, we awarded Monster Hunter Wilds an 8, stating: “Monster Hunter Wilds continues to polish the series’ rough edges with clever improvements, resulting in highly entertaining battles, though it lacks significant challenge.”
