All Difficulty Settings

Initially, players can select from three difficulty levels: Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). Unlocking the Ultimate Warrior (very hard) difficulty requires completing a main scenario for one of the three factions. Note that while there's a trophy/achievement for completing a battle on Ultimate Warrior, campaign completion doesn't have difficulty-specific trophies/achievements.

Which Difficulty is Best?

Historian mode is ideal for newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those prioritizing story progression. Wayfarer provides a balanced challenge suitable for most players, even with limited Musou/Warriors experience. Series veterans might start with Hero, while experienced Musou players should consider Ultimate Warrior after unlocking it for a heightened challenge. Difficulty can be adjusted between battles via the config menu without impacting the storyline.

Difficulty Differences

Historian simplifies gameplay, making enemy attacks easily blockable, staggering enemies easier, and boosting bravery and Musou Gauge gain. Conversely, Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, reduces parry/evade windows, and removes Meat Bun drops. Bravery depletes on blocking, influencing army battles becomes more time-sensitive, and Skill Points/gold rewards are reduced. Ultimate Warrior intensifies Hero's challenges, featuring even tighter parry/evade windows and significantly lower battle rewards.
