Life By You's Cancellation Was A Mistake Says Paradox Interactive's CEO
Paradox Interactive CEO Admits Mistakes, Highlights Life by You Cancellation
Paradox Interactive's CEO, Fredrik Wester, recently acknowledged missteps in the company's recent financial report (July 25th), specifically citing the cancellation of the life simulation game, Life by You, as a significant error. While the company enjoyed strong financial performance overall thanks to established titles like Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis, Wester admitted that decisions made on several projects outside their core strategy game focus proved misguided.
The Life by You cancellation, a major setback, represents a departure from Paradox's typical strategy game releases. Despite a nearly $20 million investment and initial promise, the game ultimately failed to meet expectations, leading to its June 17th cancellation.
Further compounding the challenges, Cities: Skylines 2 struggled with performance issues upon release, and Prison Architect 2 faced repeated delays despite platform certification. These difficulties underscore the need for a strategic reassessment of Paradox's game development approach.
Wester emphasized the company's strong foundation built on the success of core franchises like Crusader Kings and Stellaris. While acknowledging past errors, he reaffirmed Paradox's commitment to delivering high-quality gaming experiences for its players. The focus now shifts to leveraging its core strengths and refining its development strategies for future projects.
