The news was confirmed by Half-Life writer Marc Laidlaw via a since-deleted Instagram Story, where he described Antonov as "brilliant and original," noting his significant contributions to game design.

News of Antonov's passing spread rapidly across social media. A tweet from LambdaGeneration expressed sadness at the loss, highlighting Antonov's role as art director for Half-Life 2. Raphael Colantonio, founder of Arkane Studios, shared his condolences, emphasizing Antonov's instrumental role in Arkane's success and the inspiration he provided to many.
