Space Marine 2 Patch Reverts Nerfs After Fan Backlash
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 Nerfs Reverted Following Player Outcry; Public Test Servers Planned for 2025
Saber Interactive is addressing significant player backlash over the nerfs introduced in Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 with the upcoming release of hotfix 4.1 on October 24th. The developer has announced plans to launch public test servers in early 2025 to gather feedback and prevent similar controversies in the future.
The "most pressing" balance changes from Patch 4.0 will be rolled back. Game director Dmitriy Grigorenko stated, "We’ve been monitoring your feedback...and have decided to address your most pressing concerns." This decision follows negative Steam reviews and widespread player frustration.
The original intention of Patch 4.0 was to increase enemy numbers, rather than their health, to increase difficulty. However, this impacted lower difficulty settings. Hotfix 4.1 will revert these changes, significantly reducing Extremis enemy spawn rates on easier difficulties and moderately reducing them on Ruthless. To compensate, player armor on Ruthless difficulty will receive a 10% boost, and bots will inflict 30% more damage to bosses.
A substantial buff to Bolt weapons is also included in the hotfix. Saber Interactive acknowledged their underperformance across all difficulty levels. The following damage increases will be implemented:
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)
Grigorenko concluded by stating that player feedback will continue to be monitored after Patch 4.1's release to ensure the "Lethal" difficulty remains appropriately challenging. The introduction of public test servers signifies a commitment to future balance adjustments based on community input.
