Phantom Blade Zero: 20-30 Hour Gameplay, Adjustable Difficulty
Get ready to dive into the thrilling world of Phantom Blade Zero, slated for a 2025 release. This upcoming game promises a rich experience with four distinct difficulty levels and a plethora of new gameplay features. Keep reading to uncover the latest developments and what you can anticipate from this eagerly awaited title.
Phantom Blade Zero: Not A Soulslike, But Features Four Difficulty Options
Contrary to fan speculation, Phantom Blade Zero is not a Soulslike game. The game will offer four difficulty settings: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move distinguishes it from the typical Soulslike genre, which is known for its unrelenting challenge and lack of adjustable difficulty options.
Game Director Soulframe clarified in a tweet following the Summer Game Fest 2024 that creating another Soulslike was never their intention. He emphasized their goal to deliver "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating." While the game draws aesthetic and combat inspiration from Soulslikes, including multi-layered maps and hidden areas, Soulframe insists that "the similarities stop there." He has previously likened the game to "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending intense hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Recent interviews have shed light on additional exciting details about Phantom Blade Zero. Players will have a vast arsenal at their disposal, with 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique gameplay and combat effects. The game is expected to provide a main story playthrough lasting 20-30 hours, complemented by an equal amount of side content for a deeply immersive experience.
Boss fights in the game are designed with at least two phases, and if a player dies during the second phase, they can resume directly from that point, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to re-engage with previously defeated bosses, unlocking new hidden challenges. Additionally, there's a mechanic that influences the game's ending, though details on how it impacts the playthrough and the number of possible endings remain undisclosed.
Phantom Blade Zero Year Of The Snake Gameplay Trailer
The "Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer" for Phantom Blade Zero showcases the protagonist Soul in a battle against the "Chief Disciple of The Seven Stars." Following the fight, the trailer highlights various weapons Soul can use, including the "Weapon No.13 Soft Snake Sword" and "Weapon No.27 White Serpent and Crimson Viper."
The trailer hints at a 2025 release date announcement. The game's official Twitter (X) page also shared a Lunar New Year video, where Soulframe teased more exciting announcements throughout the year, promising to unveil something fans have never seen before.
Phantom Blade Zero is currently in development for PlayStation 5, with plans for a PC release as well. No official release date has been set yet.
