Supercell's Squad Busters: A Solid Start, But Falling Short of Expectations

Supercell's latest mobile game, Squad Busters, a MOBA RTS hybrid, has achieved 40 million installs and $24 million in net revenue within its first month. The game saw significant traction in the US, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea.

Despite these seemingly impressive figures, Squad Busters' performance lags considerably behind Supercell's previous hits. Revenue is significantly lower than Brawl Stars' $43 million and Clash Royale's over $115 million in their respective first months. Furthermore, installs have declined sharply, peaking at 30 million in the first week and falling below five million by the end of the month.

Supercell Fatigue?

The diminishing returns for Squad Busters, a game Supercell clearly invested heavily in, raise questions about potential market saturation. Competitor Honkai Star Rail, for instance, generated $190 million in its first month, highlighting the significant gap.

While Squad Busters is a well-made game, its similarity to Supercell's existing titles might be contributing to a sense of player fatigue. Only time will tell if Squad Busters can overcome this initial hurdle and achieve long-term success.
