Swarm Faction Details Unveiled by Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Developers

Following the teaser reveal of the Swarm faction, the developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era from Unfrozen Studio have provided deeper insights into this unique castle. They detailed their inspirations, the transformation of "Inferno" into the "Swarm," and the unfolding events on the continent of Jadame.

The Swarm's defining trait is its remarkable ability to adapt to adversaries: certain creatures' abilities scale with the level of the opposing unit (with greater damage inflicted when there's a significant level difference between the Swarm unit and its target), while others, like mantises, can select from three different abilities each round. Creatures such as worms and locusts can consume corpses to heal and empower themselves, a skill that heroes can also acquire.

In Olden Era, the traditional demonic threat is embodied by an insectoid race, which was only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8. The developers crafted the Swarm with reverence for the original lore, infusing elements of body horror and occultism to transform the faction from a mere insect colony into a cult devoted to a singular ruler. Each follower is a part of a vast collective mind, existing solely to fulfill the will of their master.

A key gameplay feature of the Swarm is its "mono-faction" mechanic, encouraging players to use only Swarm units for mutual enhancement. Additionally, Swarm troops have the ability to summon cocoons, whose health correlates with the army's size. The larvae that hatch from these cocoons join the battle as temporary units, providing adaptability in various combat scenarios.

The developers emphasized the Swarm's aggressive playstyle: its creatures can devour corpses for healing and empowerment, and they possess unique abilities that adjust according to the enemy's strength. This dynamic approach offers players a fresh and direct combat strategy.
